Getting Started with PVP
Process Verified Program Age and Source Verification
Fort Supply Technologies works directly with Global Animal Management (GAM) on their Process Verified Program (Birth Certificates) called Tri-Merit®. This is a USDA compliant program and is becoming the standard for age and source verification.
What you will need to "round-up" around the office:
- Calving Book (Individual DOB's or Date of First Born Calf).
- Bull turn out Date.
- Purchase Records for Bulls or Breeding Livestock (Brand Inspection, Health Inspection... etc.).
- If Calves were purchased they need to come from a PVP verified Ranch/Farm and purchase records will be required.
- Invoice for the purchase of Program-Compliant RFID tags.
- Market/Auction Sale Records, which describes the sale of animals from the Ranch/Farm (Auction/Market Verification).
- Veterinarian's Invoice that shows application of animal health products, bangs vaccination, pregnancy check (if available).
- Invoice for animal health products if not supplied by your veterinarian.
- Application must contain the Ranch's NAME, Full Address, Telephone Number, Contact Person, and E-mail (if available).
A Training Sheet, signed by both the Ranch contact person and Global Animal Management (Fort Supply), is an important and mandatory record within the Tri-Merit Process Verified Program agreement within the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service.
Additonal Requirements:
All PVP-enrolled calves must have a Program Compliant RFID tag.- Any purchased Calves going into PVP program must be sourced from a previously-approved PVP Ranch for Age & Source, though not necessarily from Tri-Merit.
- Ranch must be approved for PVP before the group of qualifying animals is shipped.
- GAM needs to know about any significant change to a Ranch’s business practices.
- If RFID is lost, retagging is permitted if the individual animal’s birthdate is known, or if it is in a Group whose first birth animal is recorded.
- PVP-related documents need to be kept for a minimum of 3 years.
- Operation needs to be aware of Tag Inventory – If they are using GAM “G-Tags”, Tri-Merit® records purchased inventory, which are compared to Animals on Certificates, resulting in Inventory of RFID Tags on Hand. If another Tag supplier is used, the Operation needs to diligently maintain purchase records of these Tags, in order to establish Initial Inventory.
GAM is required to perform Field Audits on 10% of Primary Producers each year (Cow/Calf & Dairy), and the USDA reserves the right to attend any of these Audits, or perform separate Audits on their own, with proper notification. Secondary Producers (Feedlot, Backgrounder, Auction Market, and Dairy Calf Ranch) are required to Field Audit EACH year, in addition to the Initial On-Site Audit when applying to Tri-Merit Process Verification Program.
